ARMSTEAD ROAD ROSE GARDEN
The Rose Garden Project was started in January 2007. The Garden was originally a part of the garden to a private house. The owner found the garden too large to manage and seperated what is the Rose Garden to the community.
Unfortunately the garden got left to its own devices as the residents changed. Later the garden was past to the Sheffield Parks Department and like everything else was left to get very over grown.
Over the past 2 years the Garden Club have worked with Sheffield Parks Department and cleared the land, to replant and revamp the site.
All the roses were replaced in the middle and the bed outlined with Lavendar. A large shrub planting/hedge was planted at the back, under planted with low growing cottage plants for shade and a cottage garden border at the front of the garden.
Bulbs have also been planted over the last 2 years to provide colour for spring.
In July 2011 we had the Sheffield Lord Mayor there to help the reward for the Lord Mayor Awards. We were joint top with 3 other gardens in Sheffield.
We were please to announce that we had won Gold and also the Special Lord Mayors Award in 2011. We celebrated this with a BBQ on 3rd August as this was our normal night for meeting.
A special thanks goes to employees at Dunston Hall Garden Centre ( www.dunstonhallgardencentre.co.uk ) for their help in tidying the garden before the judging.
The biggest thanks went to Grahame Lister from the Sheffield Ranger Service for organising the dates for tidying and making sure help was provided on the dates.
Pictures of us celebrating and of the BBQ are on the right.
